Green Economy

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Niger State Government recognizes the potential to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) while advancing sustainable socioeconomic development.

Consequently, a bold initiative has been launched to green the economy and position Niger State as Nigeria’s Green Economy hub.

This vision leverages the state’s vast land resources (76,363 km²) and carbon asset potential to drive diversified and inclusive economic growth.

The key thrusts of the green economy initiative, after reviewing and aligning with existing policy documents and state-level policies, programs, and projects, are organized around the following interconnected pillars:
1. Environmental Conservation and Management of Carbon Sink Assets

2. Sustainable Resource Management

3. Renewable Energy for Development

4. Inclusivity

5. Private Sector-led Job Creation, Especially Green Jobs

These pillars are supported by a commitment to forging effective partnerships across all stakeholder levels, both local and international.

A strengthened regulatory framework will ensure focus on objectives and key results.

Additionally, the Ministry is developing a policy to facilitate the transition of businesses to the green space.
